Chris Canavan Promoted to Senior Vice President

Press Release: Chris Canavan Promoted to Senior Vice President

Bill Bonenberger, President of W.B. Homes Inc., a North Wales based Home Building and Land Development Company, recently announced that Chris Canavan was promoted from Director of Land Acquisition and Development to Senior Vice President of the Company. Bonenberger said “Chris’ promotion is a significant step for both Chris and W.B. Homes”. “Chris’ rare combination of both public and private sector experience gives him a broad perspective and makes him uniquely qualified to play a major leadership role as W. B. Homes begins its 27th year of building award winning communities throughout Montgomery and Bucks Counties.”
Canavan started working for W. B. Homes in 2003 as a Project Manager in charge of Land Development. He was responsible for taking the company’s “raw land” through the very complicated and somewhat arduous process of obtaining all the engineering design, permitting, and approvals necessary to break ground and build the high caliber, well planned communities that W. B. Homes has become known for over the last three decades.
In 2005 Chris was promoted to Director of Land Acquisition and Development. Bonenberger said, “In this role Chris had the added responsibility of being the lead person responsible for identifying and acquiring the Company’s raw land, as well as overseeing the construction of the infrastructure and road networks within the communities”.
Bonenberger added, “For the past three years Chris has taken on additional leadership responsibilities and plays a major role in the Company’s strategic planning process. He’s not only a natural leader, and a strategic thinker but he has unique ability to look at a property and envision what it could be”. To that end Chris has helped W. B. Homes carve out a significant niche in the suburban redevelopment market and the Company recently received an award from the Montgomery County Planning Commission for the Best Revitalization Community in 2012 for their Cannon Square townhome community in Lansdale Borough.
Prior to working for W. B. Homes, Canavan spent the first eight years of his career in the public sector. He was both Assistant and Acting Township Manager in Lower Gwynedd Township from 1996 to 1999, Township Manager of Upper Providence Township, Delaware County from 1999 to 2001, and Towamencin Township Manager from 2001 until he joined W. B. Homes in 2003. Additionally, Chris is an elected government official as a member of the Lower Salford Township Board of Supervisors from 2010 to present. Prior to be elected to the Board of Superviosrs he was a member of the Lower Salford Township Sewer Authority from 2005 to 2010. Bonenberger said, “Chris has and currently is in the unique position of having experienced the development process from both sides of the table”. “He understands that the best projects are those where the Municipality, its residents, and the Developer work together towards an end that benefits each”. Canavan said “I think many local municipalities are beginning to understand that a certain amount of well planned new development and re-development is good for everyone”. “It brings in new people and new revenue sources for the municipality, and often development can help put underutilized, under zoned, and functionally obsolete properties back onto the tax rolls as vibrant new communities”.
Canavan obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science in 1995 and his Masters in Public Administration from American University in 1996. He was also an instructor from 2000 to 2010 in Villanova’s MPA Program. Bonenberger closed by saying “Chris is a huge asset to our company and will play a major and significant role as W. B. Homes continues to identify, acquire and build the types of communities it has become known for since 1986.
