V.P. of Operations, Jack Boyd, is Retiring

After 31 years of exemplary dedication with W.B. Homes, our Vice President of Operations, Jack Boyd, is retiring at the end of 2025.

On October 16th, teammates, family members, and vendor partners celebrated Jack’s incredible career at the Mainland Pavilion. There were many laughs and a few tears shed, but it was a wonderful tribute to Jack’s commitment and time with us. It was the perfect way to “officially” begin Jack’s transition into retirement at the end of the year. Check out the full photo gallery of the festivities here.

Jack has been a part of W.B. for more than 31 years and has known Bill Bonenberger, our founder, for even longer. He met Bill when the two of them worked together for another homebuilder early on in their professional careers. A few years after Bill founded W.B. Homes in 1986, Jack joined the team, and the rest is etched into our history. At the retirement party, Bill told the story of how he brought Jack on board with us:

“Fast forward to 1993, we have about seven employees and are building around 30 or so homes a year. One night, I remember sitting down talking to Janet (Bill’s wife, W.B. co-founder, and Vice President), and we knew we had to bring somebody else on board to help out. Somebody we could help build the company around. I said to Janet, “What about Jack Boyd”? And instantly, we knew that he would be a great fit. So, I contacted Jack and within a few short weeks, he was working for W.B. Homes. It was probably the best decision that I have ever made in my entire career.”

Since joining us in 1994, Jack has managed the construction of over 50 new construction neighborhoods. In our entire history, W.B. has constructed and built around 90 in total. For those keeping track at home, that’s over HALF (55%) of total neighborhoods built by W.B. Homes! Big or small, townhome or single-family home, Jack has pretty much done everything there is to be done in the new-home building industry.

Jack has been an irreplaceable leader in the company for many years. He’s been a mentor to many and any team member, vendor partner, or homeowner who has had the pleasure of working with Jack will have only exemplary things to say about him. On top of a wealth of experience and know-how, what makes Jack truly special is his ability to connect with people. In an industry where strong, trusting relationships are crucial to success, curating and upkeeping them is instinctual to Jack. As Bill puts it:

“People who bought homes from us 10, 15, even 20+ years ago, I can’t tell you how many I still run into today, they’ll say, “How’s Jack”? Those relationships have led to buyers buying a second house, and sometimes even a third house from us.”

To put the finishing touch on this announcement, we spoke to Jack about his upcoming plans for retirement. He shared,

I’m not envisioning my retirement as the end of something, but as the start of something new. There are many people that work for W.B. Homes that I will continue to keep in touch with, whom I consider to be lifelong friends. I have no intention of leaving the area and want to be on the sidelines watching my grandkids play sports.

For me, having a routine is essential. The “something new” will not be to relax – it will be more “me time”.  Socializing will be essential – walking to church, walking to a local restaurant for breakfast, and joining a senior sports league for pickleball, volleyball and golf. I’d like to go see more Flyers games, stay at the shore for a few weeks at a time, and spend time travelling in warm places.”

There are simply not enough words to describe what Jack has meant to our team and the history of W.B. Homes. Although we will sorely miss him both in the office and in the field, we wish him nothing but the best as he transitions to his well-deserved retirement at the end of the year. Congratulations Jack, and thank you for helping shape W.B. Homes into the incredible place it is today.
